Noctilucent 4

noctilucent4

The slowly dancing lights that resemble roof-level auroras and often accompany our luminous new neighbours are as mysterious as the floating visitors themselves. Some people have reported a burning, stinging sensation on the skin when encountering the phenomena near ground level, so please take appropriate precautions when it is present. Hats, long sleeved shirts, and long pants are recommended. Those with allergies are advised to remain indoors.

The mesmerising colour shifts of these mysterious lighter-than-air marine invertebrates have captivated observers even as the fauna themselves and their associated phenomena have baffled biologists, meteorologists and physicists alike.

More flying jellyfish

The fact that these entities have manifested in our skies after significant electrical storms in which atmospheric gamma ray emissions of unknown origin have been detected has been suggested to imply the occurrence of brief Einstein-Rosen bridges, perhaps caused by collision between heightened solar activity and the rare atmospheric electrical phenomena known as “sprites”. If this were the case, these “wormholes” would appear as bright spheres like ball lightning.

So far none have been observed.

Noctilucent 1

noctilucent1‘Noctilucent’ is a set of my best shots of the glowing interdimensional sky jellyfish that increasingly illuminate our cities. I don’t buy this nonsense that they’re the vanguard of something unspeakable and older than time, scratching at the walls of our universe.

I’ve tried to capture their bioluminescent grace in long exposures.
